Biopsy. Few words evoke more anxiety, emotion, and fear than the word biopsy. We understand that and work really hard to minimize your fears with gentle hands, honest opinions, and expert clinical skills.
If your doctor or dentist refers you to us for evaluation and biopsy of an unusual lesion, consider yourself lucky because it shows that they do a great job at identifying suspicious areas of concern. Fortunately, the vast majority of unusual lesions in and around the mouth are benign. For those lesions that are not benign, early identification and treatment is usually curative. The problem is that many individual procrastinate, figuring that a suspicious area “will just go away”.
In order to give you the best care possible, Dr. Konys will usually meet with you in consultation before anything is done, just to determine your specific needs, but mostly to answer all of the questions that you might have. Unlike most typical doctor offices, Dr. Konys and his staff pride themselves on their ability to listen to your concerns and give honest answers to the questions that you might have. So ask away.
If the area is straight forward, Dr. Konys is often able to treat it the same day, if you would like. However, complex problems might be scheduled at a later date. In order to assure an accurate diagnosis, Dr. Konys sends all biopsy specimens to a lab in Boston for evaluation. Your specimen will be examined by the same folks that taught Dr. Konys everything he knows.
